In my opinion, Apple has become like Bose. They are great at marketing and people buy it all up. They say the iPod sounds good and its white earbuds are fantastic, but yet they reveal no specs. I have a Creative Zen Micro and my roommate has a brand new 40 GB iPod. My player sounds tremendously better than his when playing the same file. I have also used iPod headphones with my Micro and my CD player, and they aren't that great. In fact, they are not even as good as a $10 pair of Sony earbuds I purchased at Wal-Mart. Also, one would think that any product that has sold so many units would come down in price, but with the iPod that is not the case. I purchased my Zen Micro in February for $250 and my father (after using mine) purchased one this May from the same place for $200. iPod justs likes to screw people over I guess, because surely production costs have come way down in the amount of time they have been making iPods.

"Tiger tiger. burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye.
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?"
I think you're wise unless you're willing to install on a new partition. I installed Quicktime 7.0 a little while back, and it ruined my workflow. Fortunately, Apple posted a retro-install. And then they want you to pay for a new QT Pro licence.

Andy,
You have every right to comment on this very sad development, because it will have a negative effect on our culture, regardless of religious affiliation. This is the ascendance of reactionary and punitive leaders in a worldwide organization with quite a bit of clout outside North America and Europe (Also apparently in the US too as Sidney Blumenthal says Ratzinger's thinly vieled anti-Kerrey comments may have thrown the election). As someone recently said, with Ratzinger we get all of the JP2s reactionary tendencies with none of his charm.
I feel the same type if not intensity) of dread as when W. Bush was chosen by the Supremes in 2000. My pessimistic and cynical side told me that Ratzinger would be the choice, based on the composition of the College of Cardinals that JP2 built, but my sunny side insisted that something good could happen. Alas, it seems in 2005 it’s hard to be too cynical about the way power works.
This is a goodbye to any further discussion of sexuality, the marriage of priests and the role of women in the Catholic church for at least the lifetime of Ratzinger (could be 20 more years) and likely beyond, since he and JPII will have spent at least 30 years purging the church of it's progressive leadership. There will be nobody but the like-minded among papal candidates for quite some time. This is not a temporary setback, it is likely a decisive one which could easily mean the end of Catholic relevance in countries where people are no longer willing to accept Medieval dogma from a church which they now more closely associate with secrecy and institutional pederasty than concern for improving the lot of humanity.
I’m amused by those who believe this man will somehow moderate his views at 78, now that he has the power to make his wildest anti-gay, anti-woman and anti-individual fantasies into reality. We should all hope this doctrinaire authoritarian will see the light, but I think those poor folks in Sub-Saharan Africa are going to have to continue to do without condoms or birth control so long as they seek the help of Catholic charities. The human damage this adherence to outmoded superstition will bring is hard to calculate.
No need to pull punches, this is bad news, though for me it is also confirmation that I made the right choice when I walked away from the Catholic Church at 17. Still, it hurts to see this happen because the church is a strong part of my family and ethnic identity.

'The West Wing' is all just wishful thinking. I tried to watch some the first season, but the reality of the Bush II presidency made it unbearable. Sorry.

In my memory, Basquiat was dismissed as not sufficiently intellectual for much graduate art program discussion. I can remember one critique quite distinctly in which the professorial comeback was (to paraphrase) "Well sure you like Basquiat; we all like Basquiat, but so what?"
Even Schnabel's terrific biopic portrayed him as a kind of brilliant savage (which, interestingly enough, is similar to how Pollack was and still is protrayed).
I'd love to see the show, but I'll have to settle for the reproductions. We got down to run through The Gates, but I'd trade that for this.

I haven't seen this show, and by Andy's recommendation, I ought to make a trip to NYC to see it. But I'm already suspecting that this Basquiqt show is just going to be the new 'A.I.'
J.M. Basquiat was the Al Jolson coon of the New York '80's-Heroin Art Crowd. I'm not sure that a Retrospective/Memorial show at the Brooklyn Museum is going to change my mind.
What corporations sponsored this show, and do the stockholders own many Basquiats? Were their wives just trying to get the damn paintings out of their houses?

Haven't you ever watched any Elmer Fudd cartoons, Andy? The answer to your befuddlement over these nominally 'Conservative' excercises is plain to me: Because it's huntin' season.
I ought to forward that catch-all to Maureen Dowd.
They're doing this sheyat because they can, and because it gives their radical wing-nut constituencies something to cheer about.
This is the only communication you will receive from me on this topic.
